What is dial gauge

Gauge head uses cogwheel to spin around, then utilize the movement
of pointer to present measuring result's comparison measuring instrument.

What's comparison measuring instrument

Unlike the direct measuring value reading of varnier caliper and micro
meter ,which needs to be compared with other standards to get the
reading value and measuring error.
Comparison measuring instrument must have a comparison standard.
 

Standardize methods of using

Usually not to use alone, should be used with holding device to
hold on stem. Most of the base is magnetic base, measuring 
error will occur while using stem and arm, however, it will have
accurate measurement by looking at measuring variation.
It's a very convenient tool to use.
In the working place, we need direct measuring
value reading and measuring of parallelism, flatness,
and core degree. Dial gauge would be the
most convenient tool to use.

Fine adjustment device
if the megnetic base is with fine adjustment device,
it would easy to set on.




Types of Dial gauge

 

Standard type

Gauge head and spindle can be moved up and down.

Lever type

Use the principle of leverage to expand the move of gauge head, it's
also called dial indicator. The gauge head is small and the angle can
be changed freely, it's convenient for small space measurement.

Long stroke type

Long dial gauge with wider measuring area.


Examples of using Dial gauge

Holdng position
Dial gauge can not be correctly
used only from fixing the jig.
  • When measuring flat surface,
    make sure spindle (gauge head) is
    perpendicularto the surface.
  • When measuring the outside of
    the cylinder, spindle should be
    perpendicular with the axis of
    cylinder.
