Total length L requires M×2+N×2≤L. When M×2.5+4+N×2.5+4≥L, tap pilot holes may go through.
The hardness of shaft end machined part (effective thread length + approx. 10mm) may be reduced due to the annealing effect of machining.
If there are requirements for rust prevention, please give priority to the hard-chrome plated products. For anti-rust method, click here
If there are requirements for abrasion resistance, please select high-frequency quenched products.

Product Features
Feature 1: Extensively applied in various precision equipment thanks to high precision dimensional tolerance.
Feature 2: Bearing steel (S45C or GCr15) with excellent wear resistance and SUS440C or equivalent high hardness corrosion resistant steel are used for high frequency quenching, maintaining the original toughness while enhancing abrasion resistance.
Feature 3: A variety of alterations are available to accommodate different environments.
Feature 4: Usually combined with linear bushing products, achieving excellent linear guiding functionality, and less abrasion even if subject to high-speed reciprocal motion, as compared with general shaft and bushing structure.
Feature 5: The surface treatment of hard-chrome plating is available, achieving excellent anti-rust performance and HV750 plating hardness, as well as less abrasion when used in combination with high-hardness workpieces.
Precautions
MISUMI High Precision Guide Shafts One End Tapped With Wrench Flats With Through Hole Selection Catalog②Reduced hardness of machined parts
Machining is performed after quenching of base metal. The parts that may be reduced in hardness due to annealing are:
 -All threaded
 -All stepped
-Tapped: when M≥D/2, tapped double-hole type, hard chrome plated products made of SUS440C or high hardness corrosion resistant steel
 -Adds wrench flats (SC-WSC-SX)
 -Adds screw flats (FC-WFC)
 -Adds V-grooves (VC-WVC)
-Except for full length hardened type.
Only the shaded portion of D part is hard chrome plated.
Guide Shafts One End Tapped With Wrench Flats With Through Hole Bushing MISUMI Quality Stainless Steel Material Imported from Japan
③Plating of surface treatment
Machining is performed after surface treatment of base metal. No electroplating treatment is applied to the following parts:
 -Groove part
 -Threaded part
 -Tapped part
-Wrench slot, V-groove, plane, cut section
-The inside of the tube-type guide shaft may rust without hard chrome plating.
Example of Use
Standard Linear Motion Mechanism

MISUMI Guide Shafts Full Range of Selections
Functions of standard linear motion mechanism
①Side-by-side use of two guide shafts effectively prevents workpiece rotation.
②Improved accuracy of linear motion and load capacity.
③The combination of guide shaft and linear bushing enables high-speed reciprocal motion.
④Low operational resistance, reducing the loss of workpiece.

Frequently asked question (FAQ)

Question: Why are stainless steel guide shafts rusting?
Answer: Guide shafts are made of SUS440C, which are quenched for better abrasion resistance, but the material itself is weak to corrosion. Therefore, please select hard chrome plated products for applications with higher anti-rust requirements.
Question: Why is the hardness measured on the end face center is rather low in contrast with high hardness indicated for guide shaft products in the catalog?
Answer: As the guide shaft is high-frequency quenched, a hardening layer of certain depth will form on the outer circle of the guide shaft. To ensure toughness, the material will retain original hardness at the center of the guide shaft.
Question: What are the advantages of combining guide shaft with linear bushing?
Answer: Due to rolling friction fit with the linear bushing, the guide shaft can achieve high-accuracy linear motion, causing less friction resistance to the workpiece, thus suitable for extended continuous operation.
Question: How to select models of shaft products requiring a length of 100.5mm?
Answer: The total length can be customized in 0.1mm increments with LKC alteration.
Question: Why is the end face of hard chrome plated guide shaft rusting?
Answer: The guide shaft is cut after surface treatment during material preparation. Thereafter, no surface treatment will be performed, so the cut surface is not hard-chrome plated, thus causing the end face to rust.
Question: When combined with linear bushing, some guide shafts fit closely, while others fit with clearance. Does it affect usage?
Answer: The guide shaft and linear bushing fit with each other by point-contact rolling through the steel ball circulating structure. Due to the point-contact and non-interference fit, some clearance between the shaft and the bushing is normal, which will not affect usage. The use of this structure greatly reduces frictional resistance and improves service life of the workpiece.
Question: Is the stainless steel material of MISUMI guide shafts imported?
Answer: Both the bearing steel (SUJ2) and stainless steel (SUS440C) of MISUMI guide shafts are materials imported from Japan.
Question: I hope to know about the detection method and specification accuracy of the straightness of guide shafts.
Answer: Support both ends of the guide shaft with V-shaped blocks, rotate the shaft for 1 turn at any point, and measure the amplitude of the dial meter. 1/2 of the amplitude measurement value is the straightness. Straightness varies with outer diameter and length.
Question: How much is the perpendicularity accuracy of guide shaft?
Answer: The perpendicularity of guide shaft is 0.2 for standard type and 0.03 for precision type.
